Bouncing Back

Whew.  We had a rough few days here in the Clarke household.  I was supposed to have my 'weekend away' in Bozeman this weekend, but on Thursday evening I started feeling horribly queasy.  I ended up throwing up several times over the course of the night.  Around 3:30am, Brielle started crying, and Matthew went to check on her.  I found out a bit later that she had thrown up all over her bed.  Daddy had cleaned her up, given her a bath, and gotten all of her bedding into the washer.  What a guy!  :)  He settled her in on the couch and slept in the living room with her for the rest of the night.  She threw up once more (in her bucket) during the night.

(Can I add here, how incredibly grateful I am for my husband?  He took care of everything and never complained.  I didn't 'come back' to a pile of pukey laundry, he'd washed and dried it all.  He'd done dishes.  I'm so blessed!)

The next morning (Friday), I was feeling 'okay' as long as I remained in bed, but as soon as I sat up or moved the nausea came over me in waves.  Ugh.  So Matthew took the day off from work and took care of the kids.  Oh, and to make things worse, during the night I'd started having contractions.  Not painful labor contractions, but the braxton-hicks type.  I've never had those so early in a pregnancy before, so it kinda freaked me out.  Since I was still feeling so sick, I called my midwives just to check in.  They advised me to try some liquids to see if I could keep them down, and to go ahead to the hospital if I was having 4-6 contractions per hour.

Well, I did take a couple sips of water, but it made me feel worse.  I also started counting and I'd had 6 contractions in 40 minutes.  Yep, I decided to head in.  So at 11am Matthew dropped me off at the hospital (someone had to stay with the kids, so I got to go alone) and I headed up to Labor & Delivery.  The hooked me all up to keep an eye on me and baby.  Of course the contractions pretty much stopped when I got there, I think I had a total of 2 the entire time I was there.  So that was good.  I was dehydrated, so they decided to give me some IV fluids to hopefully completely stop the contractions and help me feel better.  The first nurse poked me once and missed.  She called in another nurse, who poked me twice, and missed both times.  She called in the anaesthesiologist, who managed to get it on the first try,  thank goodness.  I was starting to feel like a pincushion.  :)  They were all very nice, and doing their best.  I'm a tough stick on a good day, but being dehydrated makes it that much tougher.

With the IV in, we started the fluids and they also gave me a dose of Reglan, an anti-nausea medicine.  That helped a ton!  Matthew came and picked me up at 3:45 and we came home.  Brielle was so bummed that we couldn't stop at the park on our way, so she seemed to be feeling better.  I had a bit of ginger ale and a couple saltines for dinner.  Brielle had a fruit strip and a bite of toast... and that all came back up.  :/  Poor kid.  On top of that, I was starting to feel sicker again too.  I had some Reglan pills in my bathroom from earlier in my pregnancy, and decided to see if one of those might help.  (They never did help before.)  Thankfully it did.  I took a while to fall asleep, but when I did (around 1am) I totally passed out... until 10:45 the next morning!  I woke up feeling much better, as did Brielle.  However, Matthew was now feeling queasy.  So he took it a bit easier for the day and avoided food.  Thankfully he never threw up.

Now it's Sunday night, and it's been almost 48 hours since we've had any 'episodes'.  Everyone seems to be on the upswing.  We are so thankful for everyone that prayed for us.  We're doing much better now.  :)  FINALLY!
