not again...

Today has been one of those days.  You know the kind of day I'm talking about.  The 'want to crawl back to bed and pull the covers over my head so I can pretend the rest of the world doesn't exist' kind of day.  :/

I woke up to Brielle yelling "Daaaaaaddy!" from the kids room at 7am... which is usually the wake up time.  HOWEVER, usually both of them are babbling in there for a few minutes before the calling out starts.  Joshua had a tough time going to sleep last night and he was actually still sleeping.  I sat bolt upright in bed and then dashed to the bedroom to try to hush her before she woke him up.  (This is where y'all laugh at my foolishness, right?!)  Haha.  Nope, he was popping up just as I got in there.  After some harsh words (that inflicted a fair bit of guilt on my conscience) to Brielle, I got Joshua out of his crib while Brielle got dressed.  Already I felt like it was one of those days... and I'd only been out of bed for five minutes.  But hey, it's gotta get better from here on out, right?!  Sure...

I bought some cereal at the store yesterday to quench my previously mentioned Chex craving.  When Brielle heard that I was getting cereal, she begged me to get some of that "whole wheat cereal" (aka Shredded Wheat).  Matthew tossed out a request for Honey Nut Cheerios, saying something about me being gone all weekend...  We never buy cereal.  We bought 2 boxes when we were in the midst of moving, because hey, it's easy to fix in the mornings and doesn't require much in the way of dishes.  (Nothing against you cereal-eaters... it's just a family preference.)  I still remember going through the checkout line and Brielle was going on and on to the cashier about how she got to pick out her own 'special cereal' because when the woman picked up the box of plain Cheerios, her eyebrows raised and she gave me that look.  I'm sure she was thinking there'd be a box of Lucky Charms hidden in the pile somewhere.  lol.

Anyway, Brielle was so excited to have cereal that I went ahead and let them have it for breakfast.  While we were eating, my phone rang.  It was my NY-Mom calling to see about getting on the webcam.  We decided to 'meet up' 15 minutes later.  Then I realized that I hadn't installed the webcam program that we use with them on the laptop.  So I got the kids cleaned up and they went on their merry way while I attempted to download Oovoo.  After trying various things, I realized that there just isn't a version that works with Linux, which is the operating system on the laptop.  (It is my mom's old laptop, that Matt fixed and then she decided to just buy a new one.  We'd had to erase the hard drive and the Windows installation CD/code was gone... so he installed Linux.)  As I'm in the midst of all this, Brielle came out and told me that Joshua had gotten into the baby powder.  I asked if she'd taken it away, and she said yes.  I told her I'd be there in just a minute.  I called Christine (NY-Mom) and told her that it wasn't going to work until she got Skype installed on her computer.  During that phone call, Brielle came out and said, "Mom, you're not coming!"  I said good-bye and hung up the phone, and headed to the bedroom... expecting to see a little baby powder on Joshua.  When will I learn??
I swear it was half an inch deep on the top of the stool!  And Joshua was white... from the top of his head to between his toes.  (It HAD been put out of his reach... hence the stool there...)  So I ignored it and went back to bed picked him up and hauled him to the tub.  He splished and splashed and turned the bath water a nice milky color.
I eventually got him out and put Brielle in.  After he got dried off and diapered, I stood for a full minute staring at the powdery mess.  I tried a baby wipe to clean it up, but it pretty much just pushed it around.  I got the vacuum.  As I'm sucking up the piles on the stool, Joshua has a horrified look on his face and keeps asking me, "Where'd it go?  Mama, where'd it go?"  Once the majority of the powder was sucked into the vacuum, I was able to use wipes (the last of the squished, torn, ripped up ones that he so nicely made for me a while back... finally used up the last of them!) to clean up the rest of the powdery residue.  I threw the clothes into the washer, because of course they had a nice powdery coating too.

Then I headed back to the bathroom to get Brielle finished up.  Well, turns out she had decided to dunk the mesh toy net (and all the toys) into the tub, then put it out on the rug.  Most of the water had soaked into the rug, but there was also water on the floor.   I cleaned that up, washed her hair, and got her out.
Looks so sweet and innocent while he's asleep!
Then it was a rush to get all the toys picked up and get ready for lunch.  I love lunch time... partially because then I know nap time is next... :)  Matthew came out and had lunch with us.  I was sitting in his chair at the head of the table, so he sat in my chair.  He (in a feminine voice) asked me how my day was going... so I told him (in my best manly voice).  We bantered back and forth, acting out each others silly habits and such... Brielle thought it was hilarious.  It was a nice bad-mood breaker, and we all got a good laugh out of it.  :)  Joshua is in bed now, Brielle is coloring quietly at the table, and I'm getting ready to lie down for a few minutes.

Hope YOU'RE having a wonderful (slightly less powdery) Thursday!

  1. You need to turn the camera around and take a picture of YOU after one of the episodes!

    1. Ha! It wouldn't have been pretty. After picking Joshua up I was also covered in white powder. I hadn't showered yet, had no makeup on, and I don't think I'd even brushed my hair! So don't hold your breath. :) I did get some pics of Matthew with the kids tonight, so at least a parental figure will make an appearance on the blog soon.
